Long Zoom for Long Now
This Friday at 6:30 I'm going to be giving one of the Seminars About Long Term Thinking for the Long Now Foundation. The event will be at the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. I'm really excited about this, since a number of my friends and heroes created The Long Now originally, and because I'm going to be talking about some of the ideas in the new book for the first time in public. If you're in the Bay Area, try to come by... [Updated: note that the talk is now scheduled to start at 6:30.]
Please note that the time for this talk has been moved up to 6:30pm... more at http://www.longnow.org

awesome talk so far
I've got to split soon, but wanted to thank you for a powerfully integrative view -- resonant with my Aikido-meme-centric ontology and evolving mobilization strategy (see essays on website at www.well.com/~rb ... contact me if you are interested in chatting about this. i'll buy you lunch or such) reed

Steven,
I had never heard of you or your work until Stewart's announcement but love the Long Now lecture series....something about your lecture...I think "connectivity" got me...caught my eye. So I went and am VERY glad I did....my own work - which includes a more superficial understanding of multiple fields - includes system thinking so many things you say last night resonated deeply with me...my 'take home value' evaluator is still processing just how useful this all will be but I wanted to thank you for coming to S.F. and making yourself available to us/me. It was stimulating, provocative and a great learning experience for all three of us.
Thanks you,
John

Steve, I forgot to ask a question in my recent post about last night: you asked why old ideas stick around...I'd be VERY interested in your take on this.
The current masculine dominated, scarcity and separateness focused and redunctionist worldview seems to be driving us into some undesired dirctions for long-term thinkers yet it persists and resists most attempts to shift into a paradigm of interconnectedness and holism. Why do YOU think this is?
Thanks again for last night,
John

I just finished listening to your lecture to the long now foundation and you had mentioned someone who had studied, or written about, how moral decisions take longer and "take place in the body". Could you tell me that person's name and some papers/books where he takes that position?
Thanks in advance!
