Jay Haynes pointed me to a wild piece on Ars about the future of Pro Tools, citing the latest batch of Apple rumors. The piece is mostly focused on Apple's plans for its music creation software, but boy does it bury the lede:
Basically the rumor is this: There will be no Logic 8. The successor to Logic 7 will have a new name. The unnamed application will be 10.5 only and will work with a new line of touch sensitive Apple displays. Also, it will be an OMG PROTOOLS KILLER!@!!
I read this and I thought: touch sensitive Apple Displays?!? That explains everything! This might be crazy, or might already be conventional wisdom somewhere, but hear me out. Think about the common denominator behind:
• The missing killer features in the Leopard preview
• The lack of iLife updates in Jan 07
• The rollout of the iPhone multitouch interface
• The abnormally long delay in releasing new Apple displays
• A rumor about a ProTools killer that relies on touch displays
I look at all those developments, and say with absolute scientific precision: Apple is going to roll out the multitouch interface across almost its entire product line this spring, integrated into Leopard, new displays, iPhone, iLife, and the successor to Logic.
OMG, did I just become an Apple rumors site?
What are this these guys talking about?
"We have some very, very exciting updates coming soon"

arnt these the guys that are working on this

I'm halfway through Everything... book. Did you know I had to read it for my college masters in teaching program. It's true.
Anyway, it's great to see my Apple world intersect with my education right here on your blog, courtesy of MacDailyNews.
Great info. I agree with your precision. Right on.

Well done. Not only multi-touch, though, but a sophisticated motion sensor system will be in play, as well. And maybe even GPS.

I am researching and developing multi-touch devices and applications.
Apple flooding the market with excellent examples on how to use this new way of interacting with machines? Makes a lot of sense, and i envisioned it more than one year ago.
Anyway, the real frontier is "doing things together" on a screen, not just being faster on some actions (and obviously slower at some others).
Maybe we will see an iTable sooner than big apple multi-touch displays?

"you are all high."
probably..
I'm a tech at a local HS. You cannot let kids control a computer by touching the screen. You will have lots of broken computers. The move from early imacs and emacs to the more beautifull but flimsy iMacs is a mess....

While I won't say you are wrong, I won't say you are right in that it explains all that you mention either.
• The missing killer features in the Leopard preview
Wasn't Apple bragging about how they had a good system core and that they didn't need radical new features in their upgrades (and thus of course dissing MS)?
• The lack of iLife updates in Jan 07
I'm with you on this one.
• The rollout of the iPhone multitouch interface
I don't really see why this would strengthen the rumor? Two completely different products aimed at completely different people.
• The abnormally long delay in releasing new Apple displays
I thought the reason for that was because Apple displays simply just rock as they are :)
• A rumor about a ProTools killer that relies on touch displays
Can't wait to see this Pro Tools killer ;)

To "Tom Clancy" and the comment about outstretched arms...if we change the way we interact with our machines, we can also change the position in which our machines are accessed. Consider that your desk is actually a large monitor. Suddenly you don't need gorilla arms to operate your machine. :)

Exotic Ho Chi Minh City, still referred to as 'Saigon' by many, has preserved its distinctly Asian feel and ancient culture, where monks pray in the numerous pagodas, temples and mosques. The capital Hanoi, is a pleasant and charming city of lakes, shaded boulevards and public parks. The old quarter, built around the Hoan Kiem Lake, is an architectural museum-piece characterised by its narrow streets. Halong Bay, with its 3000-plus islands rising from the clear, emerald waters, dotted with beaches and grottoes created by waves, is one of Vietnam's natural marvels.
