Just bought the newly announced MacBook, for which I've been waiting eagerly the past few months. I still wish it were just a little lighter; I'd be perfectly happy to have the CD/DVD drive as a external device I could connect when I needed it. But it looks like a great machine all around. I did a custom configuration with extra RAM and disk storage, and it's still reporting that it will ship in 1-5 days, which seems pretty impressive. We'll see when it gets here...
Oh, and by the way, I went with the white case. I know it's cool for Apple to be making a black laptop, but it looks more PC-like to my eyes in black...
The black version doesn't really go with a lot of the other Apple hardware, so it feels a little less Mac-like in that way to me, too. (I never really liked the look of the black iPods either.)
But it does remind me of the old black Powerbook G3's, which were nice. I'd like to see one in person.
The $150 premium, however, makes no sense whatsoever.

Steven, this makes me curious. Why did you choose a Macbook and not a Macbook Pro? The design?

Rikard, this is a pure travel computer for me -- I have a dual-G5 tower in my study that is my main computer. So I basically wanted the smallest, lightest thing that Apple could come up with that was reasonably fast. The MacBook is just under a pound lighter than the 15-inch Pro, so I went with that...

My old G3 died back in January and I had to buy a G4 despite knowing that the Big Update was soon to come. Now I need to figure out how guilty I would feel if I took advantage of the ignorance of the general public around here by selling my iBook for more than it's probably worth so that I can get a spiffy new MacBook :)

Let us know what you think, and what the deal is with the "glossy" screen. I sure hope it doesn't mean what it seems to mean...

Michael, the glossy screen DOES mean what it seems to mean: it's not an anti-glare surface. Yes, it will probably be painful for your eyes to look at for extended periods of time. Yes, you should probably get an MBP instead and opt for the matte finish on your display.
